Level 2 Programme of Study

Starting September 2026

Not sure what your next step should be?

  • Not quite ready for a full Level 3 course?
  • Want to stay at Northallerton School and Sixth Form College?
  • Looking for a supportive route into employment, training or further study?

From September 2026, Northallerton School and Sixth Form College is proud to offer a one‑year Level 2 Programme of Study, designed to support students as they take confident, well‑supported next steps after GCSEs.

About the Programme

This programme offers a structured and supportive Sixth Form experience for students who are motivated to continue their education but may not yet be ready to access a full Level 3 pathway.

Students on the Level 2 programme are fully integrated into Sixth Form life, including:

  • Membership of a Sixth Form tutor group
  • Personal Development (PD) sessions
  • Tutor time and supervised study
  • Access to Sixth Form facilities and pastoral support

What Will I Study?

Students will complete a NOCN Level 2 Certificate for Employment, Training and Personal Development, with pathways tailored to individual interests and aspirations. Pathway options may include:

  • Personal Development
  • Animal Care
  • Business Administration
  • Catering
  • Creative Skills
  • Digital (IT)
  • Health and Social Care
  • Horticulture
  • Sport and Leisure

Where appropriate, students may also have the opportunity to blend the Level 2 programme with selected one‑year Level 3 courses, allowing them to stretch and progress in areas of strength.

Work Experience

A key feature of the programme is one day per week of work experience.

This allows students to:

  • Develop real‑world employability skills
  • Build confidence in a workplace setting
  • Establish links with local employers
  • Strengthen future applications for apprenticeships, employment or further study

GCSE English and Mathematics

Where required, students will also have the opportunity to resit GCSE English and/or Mathematics. We recognise that securing these qualifications is essential for long‑term progression, employability and life chances.

Progression Routes

The Level 2 Programme offers clear and flexible progression pathways. Students may:

  • Progress from Level 2 onto a Level 3 qualification, remaining in our Sixth Form for up to three years, or
  • Progress to another post‑16 provider, an apprenticeship, employment, or training.

This flexible approach ensures students are not limited by their starting point and are able to progress at the right pace for them.
